Having said that, the Frankfurt Motor Show tends to be dominated by German carmakers, and this year’s show is set to follow a similar trend with some notable absentees. Peugeot, Ford and Nissan - the latter of which will be launching the new electric Leaf at a separate event in September - won’t be there, nor will the FCA Group: that means Fiat, Chrysler and Jeep are out too.
BMW:
BMW - another home market carmaker - will have plenty on display at Frankfurt this year. The new 6 Series Gran Turismo will make its first public outing, while we're also expecting to see the production version of the i8 Spyder drop-top hybrid sports car drawing in the crowds.
While the current 6-series coupe is set to morph into the upcoming 8-series, BMW is keeping the 6-series nameplate alive with its four-door, five-seat hatch.
We’ll see it in the metal at the 2017 Frankfurt motor show and will go on sale in November.
Jaguar E-Pace:
If you want to see the new Jaguar E-Pace SUV in the metal, your first chance will be at Frankfurt. The baby brother to the F-Pace will go up against the BMW X1, Audi Q3, and JLR's own Range Rover Evoque, and will be available to buy in early 2018.
Mercedes Benz:
Mercedes hasn't officially confirmed any Frankfurt debuts yet, but we're almost certain there will be a few given it's another home market brand.
One likely candidate is the next-generation G-Class 4x4 which has been seen out and about in disguise, while it's possible we'll see more production-ready version of the AMG GT four-door concept. It's also rumoured that the brand is readying a second all-electric concept badged under its new EQ sub-brand, which we could see in the metal at the show.
Mercedes's focus won't be all-electric, however - the brand is plotting to pull the covers off its long awaited, 1,000bhp Formula 1 engined hypercar at the Frankfurt meet.
BENTLEY:
Continental GT New, third-generation Conti range expected at Frankfurt.
Kia Stonic:
As well as showcasing Kia's current line-up, including the new Stinger coupe-cum-saloon, the Korean carmaker will use the Frankfurt show for the public debut of its new Stonic. The bold-looking small SUV is going up against sister brand Hyundai's Kona, plus the forthcoming SEAT Arona and new Nissan Juke.
Hyundai:
Frankfurt will be the first public display of Hyundai's hotly-tipped i30 N performance hatch. We'll also see the new Kona small SUV on the stands for the first time.
